Radar for flight separation
- All transport category aircraft are tracked by radar (unless beyond radar range) for the entire duration of that flight,
- Air Traffic Control is responsible for separating aircraft,
- But what happens if radar fails? Not a problem since:
- That said-radar has its limitations:
- can't "see" over the horizon (e.g. an ocean) or in mountainous areas. In our Workshop, we'll discuss the new satellite-based
technology (ADS-B), now being phased in.
